On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the University of Montevallo Athletics Department held an open house to showcase renovations to VACCA Hall. The renovations follow tornado damage the building suffered in 2022.
The facility will serve approximately 160 student-athletes and provide a home for men’s and women’s lacrosse, wrestling and acrobatics and tumbling.
The space will also provide offices for the university’s golf coaches. With the exception of golf, all of these programs have been introduced to UM within the past nine years.
VACCA Hall is located next to the University of Montevallo Track and Field Lacrosse Complex, where practice and game fields for the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams are located.
Coty Jones, director of the Physical Plant, received recognition for his efforts in the renovation from several members of the athletics staff.
“We are very proud of the outcome of this new facility,” said Richard. “This will be helpful in serving our athletics community.”
The building features locker rooms and practice areas for both the acrobatics and wrestling teams.
“This will now serve as a more centralized and dedicated space for these teams, some of which haven’t really had one until now,” said Wyatt Hall, assistant athletic director of external relations.
