The American Red Cross, the United States’ largest supplier of blood, set up a donation center in Farmer Hall, Jan. 4.
Alabama’s blood supply has been dangerously low due to the recent snow storm. The bad weather forced several blood drives to be canceled and many blood donation centers to close their doors. The Red Cross hopes to have their supply restocked with the newly scheduled blood drives.
Montevallo’s drive was open to all faculty, staff and students. A total of 34 people participated, and 23 usable units of blood were collected.
With each unit being enough for three patients, a total of 69 lives can be saved from these donations.
