Montevallo residents and UM students now have the ability to access a map, restaurant guide and calendar on their phones through the newly unveiled city application.
Free to download on the Google Play and Apple App stores, the software was developed by the Kentucky based Red Pixel Studios.
The app’s home page features a green tinted list of tabs that users may scroll through.
The application includes a brief history of the city in its “About Montevallo” section and a photo gallery of specific locations, such as Orr Park and Stephens Park, as well as past events like the Christmas Parade and Trick-Or-Treat on Main Street.
With only 10 downloads as of Feb. 23, the software is still in a fairly infant stage. There are no announcements listed under the tab of the same name.
The Montevallo Chamber of Commerce helped to put in data for the various business listings within the app. These included up to date logos and phone numbers for businesses around town.
According to Steve Gilbert, the executive director of the chamber, the app was created with the purpose of targeting the university student and faculty committee. He explained that because of the waves of new community members that arrive in the Spring and Fall, the city wanted to have an information directory that would be easy to access for newcomers.
