On Nov. 24, 2014, the Montevallo City Council approved the new city hall project. Williford Orman Construction offered the lowest bid of approximately $1.4 million.
The new City Hall and police station will be located on Main Street in the parking lot adjacent from the current site.
The old buildings only have about 6,600 square feet which results in inadequate space to work. According to Montevallo Mayor Hollie Cost, “The ceiling is at risk of falling in,” and it also leaks. The issues of the building raise health concerns for workers.
The new building will consist of “nice, beautiful building with arches in line with university architecture,” said Cost. The combined size of the city hall and police station will equal nearly 8,000 square feet, allowing for much more space and comfort for employees.
Construction at the new site kicked off on Dec. 22, 2014. Managing member of Williford Orman Construction, Wayne Williford, said change will be noticeable at the site shortly after the new year, and he hopes to see completion by the end of summer.
