The University of Montevallo and the City of Montevallo celebrated the new academic year and the eclectic nature of the community with Artwalk, themed “Artsquawk: Put a Bird on It” on August 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Montevallo. Approximately 50 artists and vendors displayed their work on Main Street. Hundreds of attendees lined the street at this event. This Artwalk event was sponsored by Waste Pro Alabama.

In addition to being a lively night on the town, Montevallo Artwalk is an initiative to support downtown businesses and draw the university into the community while highlighting both the local and university art communities.

Featured at this event for children was a special Field Day hosted by the Montevallo Junior City Council. Field Day consisted of classic carnival games, tug-of-war, water gun war, capture the flag, a live event from 95.7 Jamz, a moon bounce and other family-oriented activities. Proceeds from Field Day went toward uniforms and equipment for the Montevallo Middle School band and athletic teams.

Live music also added to the “street party” atmosphere. Musical entertainment for the evening included Rosetta & the Stones, Two Jimmy Band and Chase Stewart.

At the conclusion of the Artwalk, the city presented Movie in the Park showing “Oz: The Great & Powerful.” Also following the Artwalk, the Main St. Tavern held their four-year anniversary celebration.
