Nintendo hosted the final “Mr. Sakurai Presents” for “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” on Oct. 5. The date for this presentation was first announced in a Nintendo Direct on Sept. 23.
“Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” is a crossover 3D fighting game that was released in in 2018 and has had downloadable content in the form of Fighter Passes and Challenger Packs added since release. In the presentation, Masahiro Sakurai announced that Sora from the “Kingdom Hearts” series would be the final DLC fighter and part of Challenger Pack 11.
Sora is the primary protagonist of the “Kingdom Hearts” series which is a collaboration between the developers at Square Enix and Disney. Sora is known for his use of a Keyblade as a weapon. The “Kingdom Hearts” story branches between multiple Disney and Pixar properties like “Toy Story” and “Mickey Mouse.”
Along with the reveal of Sora as a fighter there was also an unveiling of a new stage based upon the “Kingdom Hearts” series with a changing mural of characters form the series, complete with musical backing from the various games.
Multiple mii fighter costumes are to be added as part of the Challenger Pack as well. An “Octoling” wig and “Judd” hat from the “Splatoon” were displayed alongside the addition of a Doomslayer costume from the first-person shooter series “Doom.”
Now that Sora will complete the character roster, Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Communications, said that “With a dozen fighters added since the game launched, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate now boasts 86 total fighters spanning the entire history of video games, giving players an unprecedented amount of gameplay choices and options.”
Content from the final DLC, Challenger Pack 11, will come to “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” on Oct. 18.
