The University of Montevallo Concert Choir performed a showcase of classic Christmas songs at the American Village on Dec. 3. This event lasted a little over an hour with 14 carols and two concertos.
The choir consisted of 47 students, and the guest band included two violinists, one viola, one cellists, two oboes, one bassoonist, two flutes and one percussionist. The organist was Dr. Laurie Middaugh and the conductor was Melinda Doyle. The event was narrated by Montevallo Mayor Hollie Cost.
The songs the whole team performed included “Carol of the Bells,” “Veni, Veni Emmanuel,” “Hark! The Herald-Angels Sing” and many others. Soprano Jana Taunton sang a solo in “How Still He Rests” and tenor Stacy Daniels sang a solo in “Go Tell it on the Mountain.”
The evening concluded with a powerful reading of “Peace on Earth” by Anonymous and the choir shaking the church walls with their performance of “O Come, All Ye Faithful.”
